Best Practices for Maintaining (and prolonging the lifespan) your Ductless Mini Split

After you've installed your ductless mini split and have used it for several months, you might be wondering how to maintain it. You might also be wondering how to protect your new AC investment and prolong the lifespan. To maintain and expand the lifespan of your new HVAC unit, maintaining it is just as important as maintaining your car. Regular check-ups and maintenance is critical!

So what do you need to do?

  1. Cleaning the Air Filters of the Indoor Unit(s). The air handler filters block a lot of dust and unwanted particles to circulate through the air. Don't breathe this in and don't make your indoor units work harder that hey have to! Remove the filters and wash with warm water and soap.
  2. Cleaning the Air Handler Coils. While you are waiting for the air filters to dry off, we recommend using an A/C Foam Cleaner to clean the coils. Use the MRCOOL Cleaning Care Kit to make sure your indoor unit is pristine for you and your family!
  3. Clean the surrounding area of the Outdoor Unit (Condenser). A condenser can only operate if it's unobstructed from it's surroundings. Remove any debris (branches, leaves or anything else) that would be blocking proper airflow to and from the condenser.
  4. Clean the Condenser Coils. Using an A/C foam cleaner, clean the condenser coils completely and rinse it off with water. Do NOT spray anything into the electrical components within the unit.

Remember to...

  • Perform these maintenance activities every six months
  • Disconnect all all electrical connections. The electricity should NOT be running when you are cleaning the unit
  • Do not spray anything into the electrical parts of the indoor or outdoor unit
  • Use the MRCOOL Cleaning Care Kit to receive everything you need to do the above!
  • For full instructions, you can refer to the MRCOOL Care Guide
